Qualifying New York City Vital Record for Foreign Use
​Please Note: We do not charge by the document, but by the trip. If you have documents that require Apostillle services for you and/or family members, we save you the cost of separate charges per document.

​Any vital record that is to be used for purposes outside of the United States requires additional authentications in order to be deemed valid. It is a multi-step process that includes: Having the City Clerk’s signature authenticated by the County Clerk, and finally the County Clerk’s signature authenticated by the New York Secretary of State (Apostille). Our fees for the services are as follows: 

Authentication of City Clerk’s Signature by County ClerkCertificates or Records are taken to a County Clerk’s Office, where the County Clerk will authenticate the hand signature of the City Clerk on the marriage record. The NYC fee for this is $3.00. 

Authentication of County Clerk’s Signature by NY Secretary of StateThe final step is to take the Certificate -- authenticated by the County Clerk -- to the office of the New York Secretary of State, where the County Clerk’s signature will be authenticated and an “Apostille” attached.  The fee for this is $10.00.

Document Retrieval 

Marriage Records
For foreign use, an Extended Certificate is required. The fee charged by NYC for providing the Extended Certificate is $35.00. Requests for a marriage record less than 50 years will require a signed and notarized letter of authorization from one of the spouses in order for one of our agents to obtain it on their behalf. This letter must be signed in the presence of a Notary Public, and must give the particulars of the marriage (names of parties, borough of marriage, date of marriage, certificate number). For your convenience, we have our form JS Marriage Record Authorization.

In the event you do have the particulars, a search will have to be performed. The fee charged by NYC to search for a marriage record is $5.00 for the first year, $1.00 additional for a second year, and $.50 per year for any additional years searched.  This information can be located by our professional paralegals once you complete our form JS Marriage Record Authorization. If you have the particulars of the marriage, the NYC search fee will not apply.  If you already have the Extended Certificate for Apostille, this step may be skipped altogether. 

Divorce Records
To obtain Divorce Records, the NYC fee is $.25 per page copy fee, plus an $8.00 per document certification fee.  Divorce records are private and require written authorization from one of the parties in order for us to access the court file.  For your convenience, we have our form JS Divorce Record Authorization.  This form must be completed, signed and notarized by one of the spouses named in the case.

Birth and Death Records
Due to NYC privacy laws, we cannot obtain birth or death records. 
​These record can be obtained only by direct family or the individuals themselves.
